The Search/Nomination and
Transition Committees for the Election of a Bishop Coadjutor, Diocese of Long
Island
We will be stewards of the process entrusted to us by the Diocese, understanding
our ministries as that of servants.
We seek always to be grounded in prayer and worship with time for reflection,
silence, and attentiveness to the Spirit of God in our midst.
We will be open to the possibility and probability of renewal and
transformation, both personal and corporate.
We seek in all matters to serve with integrity, to be fair, and to tell the
truth. Each committee member has an equal place at the table. We will be open
about our individual biases.
We will make every effort to appreciate the different styles, gifts, and
approaches we bring to this work. We will practice stewardship of our language.
We commit to making constructive use of disagreement.
We agree to use consensus as our model of decision-making. We agree to make
decisions in the context of our respective committees and sub-committees rather
than through informal, unauthorized groupings.
We will honor confidentiality. We will refrain from inappropriate disclosure of
information. We will be respectful of those who have entrusted themselves to us
in this process of discernment.
Where appropriate, we will seek to expand the circle by involving people
throughout the diocese with gratitude for the gifts and skills they offer.
We will practice hospitality in every aspect of our work, treating each other
and those with whom we have contact with respect, courtesy, and kindness. We
will treat all candidates and nominees, along with their families, as honored
guests. We will be hospitable in every way possible to our bishop and his
family, and in time, to our bishop-elect and his or her family. We will involve
them in the planning of events that involve them, and we will welcome their
input.
We will be attentive to our use of physical space.
We seek to bring to our work and our relationships humor, joy, humility,
generosity, and kindness. We will use the positive as a frame of reference
rather than the negative.
