Welcome to our web siteOn this site you will find information from the Search/Nominating and Transition committees, which were appointed at the end of January to help our diocese find its new episcopal leader. We will be posting our timetable, educational material about the election process and traditions of our church, the profile of our diocese, information for prospective nominees, contact details, and other documents. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@bishopforlongisland.org or by mail at P.O. Box 712, Port Washington, NY 11050, or you can leave us a message in our voice mailbox at 1-877-823-4334. A few words of introduction. Our committees consist of people from all across the diocese, from Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk. Representatives were elected from archdeaconries and at-large members were chosen by the Joint Oversight Committee, which oversees the process. We come to this ministry from varying occupations and ethnic backgrounds, and our theological views have all manner of hues. But we are united in our commitment to you and to our diocese. We will listen hard, pray often, and do all we can to present the best possible slate of talented nominees to Convention. We have all endorsed a covenant for our work: We understand that as stewards of an important process during a difficult time for our church, we are your servants. On a personal note, let me say that it was a real honor – and quite humbling – to have been asked to chair the Search/Nominating Committee. I was a writer and editor for nearly 15 years here on Long Island and in other parts of the world, and for the last 19 years I worked in the research department of a global securities firm in New York. Exactly none of this prepared me to lead the search for a bishop coadjutor! However, we are quite blessed to have the Rev. Donovan Leys of St. Stephen’s, Jamaica, and the Very Rev. Rick Simpson of St. Mark’s, Islip, as our vice-chairs; Latonia Early-Hubelbank of St. John’s, Huntington, who will be our spokesperson; and 16 other highly accomplished, dedicated clergy and lay people on this committee. It is a privilege to work with colleagues of this caliber, and with your support and involvement, we will not fail in the months ahead. My colleague the Very Rev. Eddie Alleyne of St. Gabriel’s, Brooklyn, who chairs the Transition Committee, and I will be grateful for any feedback you have. — Fred Miller Chair, Search/Nominating Committee
