Prayers for the Selection of a Bishop Coadjutor

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the hearts and minds of those who shall choose a bishop coadjutor for this Diocese, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A Prayer for the Election of a Bishop Coadjutor

Gracious God, giver of all good gifts, by your Spirit fashion our lives according to the example of your Son, and guide us as we seek to choose a Bishop Coadjutor for our diocese. Teach us in all things to seek first your honor and glory, so that we may receive a faithful pastor who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

The Collect: Mission I

O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you, bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit upon all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

O God, you led your holy apostles to ordain ministers in every place: Grant that your Church, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, may choose suitable persons for the ministry of Word and Sacrament, and may uphold them in their work for the extension of your kingdom; through him who is the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Almighty Father, whose blessed Son before his passion prayed for his disciples that they might be one, as you and he are one: Grant that your Church, being bound together in love and obedience to you, may be united in one body by the one Spirit, that the world may believe in him whom you have sent, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A Prayer for
The Search for a Bishop Coadjutor
For the Diocese of Long Island

Gracious and loving God, we come to you for guidance and strength as we search for a new bishop for the Diocese of Long Island. Help us to discern your desire for your people and to call a shepherd who can guide us in your path. Help us to be open to the movement of your Spirit as we call a bishop who will show us the wonders and excitement of more fully becoming your disciples. Help us to elect a bishop coadjutor who will walk the difficult roads with us and take us closer to the Kingdom that you desire for us. Keep our search committee committed to one another in their task, give them the strength and perseverance to listen to the people of this diocese and to your guidance, and help them remember to delight in one another even as they move through this most serious of responsibilities. We ask all of this in the name of your Son, our loving Savior and ever present Shepherd, Jesus Christ.

O God, you know the secrets of the stars, you set the earth in her orbit, you plumb the depths of atoms and galaxies. Illuminate our hearts with your Holy Wisdom, that as we search for our new bishop, we may also come to know fully who we are as your people in the Diocese of Long Island, redeemed through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit; One God forever and ever.
 

Lord Jesus, our Savior, you called Zacccaeus down from the sycamore tree and had a feast at his house, help us to hear your call as we deliberate the choice of our next bishop coadjutor; help us to hear your call in our committees, our phone calls, our e mails; help us to hear your call to justice and compassion and forgiveness in all our doings, that the choices we make may be in accordance with your teaching and your will, and that our life in you may be the feast to which you call us; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit; One God now and forever
